Heeyyyy Guys, another foundation review. A $69 foundation, like that price is CRAZY! But its Hourglass and Hourglass are known for quality and for being luxurious so paying that for a “miracle” foundation is totally worth it right?. Today I am reviewing the New Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick. You guys know I just tell it how it is, my skin is normal, sometimes slightly oily on my nose but it’s basically normal. This post is a collab with one of my fav bloggers Daniela over at www.missnewbeauty.net she has amazing photos and great honest reviews. I don’t love this foundation, I think I am disappointed again 🙁 But funnily enough I think Daniela is enjoying this foundation and we usually agree. Keep reading for why I don’t like this foundation.
This foundation has .25oz of product for $46 USD compared to ABH foundation that has .35oz for $25 USD or the Make Up Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick which has .44oz for $43 USD. So basically the Hourglass foundation is the most expensive stick foundation and has the LEAST product! So that’s definitely a down side. The ABH foundation has .10 more oz than the hourglass but its HALF the price. This foundation has 26 shades I think, I use “warm ivory” and I am a light/medium skin tone. Below is a comparison of “Warm Ivory” Next to other foundation shades that work with my skin tone.
Here is “Warm Ivory” next to other shades I use. From top to bottom we have
– HOURGLASS VANISH SEAMLESS FOUNDATION STICK – “WARM IVORY’
– MAKEUP FOREVER ULTRA HD STICK FOUNDATION STICK – “120”
– ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS STICK FOUNDATION – “WARM NATURAL”
– NARS SHEER GLOW FOUNDATION – “PUNJAB”
– TOO FACED BORN THIS WAY FOUNDATION “LIGHT BEIGE”
– CLINIQUE CHUBBY IN THE NUDE – “GOLDEN NEUTRAL”
As you can see the top 4 are very similar to Hourglass “Warm Ivory” The bottom two are more tanned shades. The MUFE shade 120 is nearly Identical to “Warm Ivory”.
This foundation also claims to be water proof, have 12 hour wear, have the coverage of a concealer, the fluidity of a foundation and the weightlessness of a powder with undetectable full coverage. Right away I can tell you that the only claim I really support is that it has to coverage of a concealer. Its kind of weightless but it does start to feel oily.
This foundation is REALLY pigmented. It glides onto your skin so creamy and you don’t need alot. When you are using this foundation make sure your moisturiser is completely absorbed and dry. Dont use a really oily or siliconey primer, something that goes tacky or the POREfessional work nicely. This foundation doesn’t work well with a beauty blender. The beauty blender just cant seem to make the coverage even on its own and it can be quite alot of work to blend out. Compared to the MUFE foundation stick that works well with the beauty sponge or brush. This foundation works really well with a flat top kabuki or a more denser not spikey duo fibre sort of brush. Once you have blended you will look like a doll. This foundation is FULL COVERAGE. If you touch your skin though it completely transfers. I have tried setting it with translucent powder, pressed powder and powder foundation and the best option is a thin pressed powder or translucent powder because this foundation can really cake up. Even with powder this still transfers really bad after a few hours. This foundation looks BEAUTIFUL in photography, it’s completely blurs imperfections and there is no flash back. you can see below that my skin looks quite flawless. I have a lot of redness these days and pores etc and this on first application makes my skin look really nice. Here it is set with RCMA no color powder, a little bronzer and blush and no concealer under my eyes.
I am not oily but after two hours this foundation looks really oily on my nose, between my brows and my chin. Within 4 hours this foundation has completely started to break up, on my uper lip, between my brows, on my cheeks and chin. It goes from making you look doll-like to suddenly making you look really bad. It doesn’t necessarily sink into pores or fine lines it just cakes up and breaks up and does not look nice, see close up shots below, which are actually really daunting to post because this foundation makes my skin look SO BAD, but it’s not my skin, it’s the foundation.
Another thing to note is that it works great when you apply concealer over it but you CAN NOT cream contour. It you want to buff a cream contour this product will completely move from underneath it. I also tried a stick cream highlighter and a Becca poured highlighter over top and it did not work at all. Because this product transfers so badly when you try to buff or pat another cream product over the top it just does not work out.
APPLYING THE FOUNDATION (you are supposed to only need 3 little dots on each area of the face but you need about this much to get an even coverage)
FOUNDATION BLENDED OUT WITH NOTHING ELSE ON THE FACE BESIDES PRIMER (USING FLAT TOP KABUKI)
FINISHED WITH TRANSLUCENT SETTING POWDER, BLUSH AND BRONZER
TWO HOURS LATER (as you can see the foundation has started to break up and I’m looking a little oily, but still not to bad)
HERE IS 5 HOURS LATER (you can see my makeup looks terrible, it’s basically gone and you can see my redness and my skin looks patchy especially between my brows)
My favourite way to wear this foundation was using THE NEW BODY SHOP INSTAGLOW CC CREAM “PEACHY GLOW” as a primer because it absorbs nicely, slightly brightens and goes a little tacky. Then I apply the foundation with a flat top kabuki brush and then set with the RCMA NO COLOR POWDER. I tried 4 different primers and I tried 4 different powders.
THIS FOUNDATION IS FOR YOU IF –
You want full coverage for a SMALL amount of time (like 2-4 hours) and you need photos taken. Anything else it just wont work.
If you are dry, this will cling to dry patches after a few hours, if you are oily it’s going to slide off and break up.
I am actually really disappointed, I mean I paid $69 AUD for this. It’s not good enough. The MUFE foundation stick is very similar but it doesn’t cake up or break up as bad as this one does. The ABH stick foundation is much better especially if you have oily skin, though it’s still not perfect. I may have to review those next. when first applying this i was blown away by the coverage and how flawless I looked, so Hourglass has done a great job there, it’s just that s where it stops, everything you DONT want a foundation to do it does.
Do your self a favour and skip this one.
Beleive it or not I actually really dont like doing negative reviews, Im just tired of paying so much for something that is all over social media and then being so disappointed.

*I thought I may add in, After I had written this review I decided to check out other reviews, and people either loved it or hated it. A lot of people experienced the exact same issues as me and they had different skin types and ages and a lot really liked it. I think your best bet is to get a sample if you can.
Leave me any questions you have! Xx
